- Artist Bio / Statement -

Hello! My name is Carlos Vargas. I am a Cuban American and LGBT artist born in Miami, Florida. Currently I am living in Charlotte, NC where I recently graduated with a BFA in Fine Arts at The University of North Carolina of Charlotte. Artist who inspire me include Felix Gonzalez Torres, Steven Cohen, Lesley Dill, and Tony Oursler.

When I was a little boy, one of my favorite things in the whole wide world was to read stories. I would then take the stories and transform them into fun imaginative moments. As I got older these imaginative moments focused more on the emotional themes rather than just what was written on the page. Doing this allowed me to create my own abstracted pieces where the takeaway was more emotional rather that literal. This ideology became the central theme of my work as an artist.
